Understanding the world around us

Children show great interest in the world they live in. They are curious to find out why things happen and how things work through simple investigations. Their curiosity leads to the development of scientific knowledge and awareness of how science and technology shape and affect our lives. Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe, and find out about people, places, technology, and the environment.

In the early years, exploration revolves around the earth and solar system, nature’s cycles, seasons, observing, studying, experimenting on animals and plants, chemical reactions, properties of water, shape, color, and texture of different material, etc. Visits to museums, zoos, city farms play an important role in the development of their understanding of the world as well.
